MTG Judo Club
Judo for all – a safe, inclusive club for every age and ability.
Why Judo?
Judo is an Olympic sport that develops strength, fitness, and self-control in a safe and structured environment. At MTG Judo Club, we focus on practical skills, strong fundamentals, and positive values that support people of all ages and abilities.
Judo: The Gentle Way
Judo emphasises technique over force. There is no striking – instead, students learn how to use balance, timing, and leverage to control movement safely and effectively.
Confidence
Judo builds confidence through steady progress and achievable challenges. At MTG Judo Club, students gain confidence by learning new skills, overcoming obstacles, and seeing their own improvement over time.
Discipline
Judo develops discipline, focus, and consistency. Training at MTG Judo Club encourages goal-setting, perseverance, and respect for structure – skills that carry over into school, work, and everyday life.
Fitness & Flexibility
Judo provides a full-body workout that improves strength, mobility, and endurance. Training naturally develops flexibility and body awareness in a way that suits all fitness levels.
Coordination
Judo improves balance, coordination, and spatial awareness through controlled movement and partner work. These skills support athletic development and reduce the risk of injury.
Respect
Respect is central to judo. At MTG Judo Club, students learn respect for themselves, their training partners, their coaches, and the rules – creating a positive and supportive learning environment.
Community
Judo is about more than training – it’s about belonging. At MTG Judo Club, we build a supportive, inclusive community where members encourage each other, celebrate progress, and grow together on and off the mat.

FAQs
Do I need experience to start?
Not at all. Most people who join MTG Judo Club are beginners. We teach judo step-by-step and group students appropriately, whether they’re brand new or returning after a break. All ages, fitness levels, and body types are welcome.
What ages are appropriate for judo?
We welcome children from 4 years old, as well as teens and adults. Classes are structured by age and experience to ensure training is safe, engaging, and appropriate. If you’re unsure which class is best, get in touch and we’ll help you choose.
I don’t have a judo gi (suit) – what should I wear?
For your trial, wear a t-shirt and comfortable shorts or tracksuit pants (no zips if possible). Please bring a water bottle. We have spare judo jackets available so you can train comfortably during your trial.
Is judo safe for kids?
Yes. Safety is a core focus at MTG Judo Club. We teach falling skills early, progress techniques gradually, and keep training closely supervised and level-appropriate. Judo emphasises control, balance, and awareness, making it one of the safest martial arts when taught correctly.
Can parents watch?
Absolutely. Parents are welcome to watch classes, and we have seating available. If it’s your first time attending, arriving a few minutes early will give us time to get you settled and answer any questions.
What’s the go with competitions?
Competing in judo competitions is completely optional. Some members choose to compete, while others train for fitness, confidence, and enjoyment. If you or your child are interested in competing, our coaches will guide you through the process when you’re ready.
What if I’d like to start Judo, but MTG Judo Club isn’t close to me?
Good news! If MTG Judo Club just isn’t in the right location for you, no problem at all!
We encourage anyone interested in Judo to find a local club through our State Body, Judo Queensland.
